AutoStrop, later Valet AutoStrop, is the clearest case in this archive of a maker who numbered everything and published no key. The numbers are stamped on the razors, and the widely quoted collector position is explicit that the keys simply are not held — AutoStrop and Rolls are two well known manufacturers who serial numbered their razors, and the key is missing.
The first models are staggered: the A1 of 1906 with a friction slot for the blade, the A2 of 1912 alongside it, then the B1 and B2, which are the last razors marked AutoStrop alone.
The 1921 boundary brings the inscription Valet AutoStrop Razor. The VC1 is the basic razor of the 1920s, the VB2 the most expensive North American model, and the VC3 and VC4 close the line with the VALET pin and teardrop clasp retention system.
10 AutoStrop / Valet models are catalogued with their production years, specs and safety notes.
Browse the models →No. AutoStrop numbered its razors, and the collector position is that the key to those numbers is not held by anyone who has published it. The dating route that works is the model typology, which gives a window; the number is recognised and refused.
